Why do I get an invoice?

Karns Fire Department is funded through a subscription program. Invoices for the subscription program are sent out in January each year.

The amount of this invoice is based on the square footage of your residence according to the property assessor’s records.

Karns Fire Department strives to be excellent stewards of the community’s money. All money remains local and is devoted to providing fire and emergency services in our community. Funds are utilized to support the following needs:

  • Fund the operations of four fire stations.
  • Purchase and maintain modern equipment, personal protective equipment, rescue tools, cardiac monitors, and thermal imaging cameras.
  • Provide continuing education and training to our employees to expand our services.
  • Other costs relating to our response to over 3,000 calls for emergency service every year.

The subscription program is structured so that no additional costs will be accrued for emergency calls if you are a member.

While Karns Fire Department provides emergency medical care, they are a non-transport entity.

Yes. An inspection of your current smoke detectors can be conducted along with battery changes or an install of a new detector, if needed.

The community is welcome to stop by and visit during reasonable hours of the day. Unfortunately, we cannot always guarantee that we will be at the station due to our call volume and other fire prevention efforts throughout the community. To schedule a visit to a fire station, please submit a request here.

If your at home fire alarm system has activated and you cancel it through your alarm company, have them call 865-215-2444. This should allow for a quicker cancellation of the emergency response that has been sent to your activation.
